Mark Simon and I finished up another terrific week on the Baseball Today podcast with Friday’s episode, as we discussed a few rookies making immediate impact and previewed the weekend for games and potential trades.

1. First off, Justin Verlander had an odd night, blowing a lead against Cleveland, but isn’t he still the best pitcher in the game and the top choice for AL Cy Young?

2. Perhaps New York Mets right-hander Matt Harvey is a future Cy Young contender, and he showed his stuff in Arizona on Thursday. Mark discusses Harvey's future and a recent trip to see Mets minor leaguers.

3. The Pirates got a jolt Thursday from youngster Starling Marte, but is it enough for their offense? Also, what are Pittsburgh’s playoff odds?

4. Our emailers have questions about top players on lesser World Series teams, Tim Lincecum's perhaps historic drop in Wins Above Replacement and we get a bit ridiculous.

5. The highlight series is not in New York this weekend, but out in San Francisco. We tell you which series are the most important, and which teams need to win to avoid being sellers.

So download and listen to Friday’s Baseball Today podcast, and have a great weekend!
