David Banks/Getty ImageGive them an award: Not many fans were left at Wrigley Field by the end of the game.Kudos for the Pirates for pulling out an important 3-0 victory, although they then had to fly back to Pittsburgh, where they host the Brewers tonight in the first game of a big series as both teams are hanging on the fringes of the playoff race.
And kudos to the few fans who hung around for the entire game. Here's a good report from Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, who talked to some of those who stayed. Alfonso Soriano said he could hear fans talking on their cell phones. Andrew McCutchen had fun with the few fans left.
- Out in the left center field bleachers, fans were chanting at Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, informing him that he was on steroids. McCutchen laughed and goofed around with bleacherites all night, making many new friends.
Then there was fan Gabrielly Maloney, attending her first game of the season.
- "It's the Cubs," Maloney said. "They never win anyways. I don’t care. I love them. I’d like to pat them on the shoulder right now."
