Smoak or Montero: Who would you want?

By David Schoenfield

Last season, the Mariners reportedly turned down a deal for Cliff Lee involving Yankees prospect Jesus Montero, and instead took the Rangers' offer that included Justin Smoak.

ESPN Insider's Kevin Goldstein has a piece suggesting it's time for the Yankees to call up Montero, although he was recently benched for a reported lack of hustle. In his repeat of Triple-A, Montero -- still just 21 years old -- is hitting .291/.337/.410, with five home runs in 234 at-bats. His defense behind the plate remains a huge liability. Smoak, 24, is hitting .264/.366/.488, placing him 20th in the American League in OPS.

So, did the Mariners take the right guy? Vote in the poll.
