TAMPA, Fla. -- I got a text message from a friend Saturday, saying he had dropped Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin from his fantasy football team.
I immediately texted him back and told him he made a mistake.
Martin currently is dealing with a shoulder injury and he already has missed one game. From everything I’m hearing, the Bucs expect Martin to miss one or two more games.
But he is expected back at some point this season. If he wasn’t going to be able to return, the Bucs already would have put Martin on injured reserve.
Martin had been bottled up before the injury because teams were challenging rookie quarterback Mike Glennon to beat them. That’s not likely to change when Martin comes back.
But I think Martin still has plenty of fantasy value if he gets some help from his offensive line.
Also on the injury front, The Tampa Tribune’s Ira Kaufman reports that wide receiver Mike Williams has a torn hamstring. Coach Greg Schiano said Williams had a condition and it was a matter of whether or not he can play through it.
Williams already missed one game with a hamstring injury. It’s unclear how bad the tear is. But it might be wiser for the Bucs to shut Williams down for a bit instead of risking further damage.
