I've got another day of meetings at the home office in Bristol, Conn. But, before I get started, let's take a look into today's mailbag question.
Malik in Tampa says that a lot of mock drafts are projecting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take a quarterback. He questions that wisdom because he thinks Mike Glennon is good enough to get the job done.
I'm in agreement with Malik. I'm not saying Glennon ever will be a superstar. But I think he can be a competent NFL quarterback if he has a supporting cast around him. That might be all you need in a system like coach Lovie Smith's, where the foundation is built on the defense and the running game.
But it's not up to Malik or me to make this decision. It's up to Smith and general manager Jason Licht. Smith has said the Bucs would consider drafting a quarterback at No. 7 overall. But he might just be blowing smoke.
I think the new regime still is evaluating what Glennon did in his rookie year. I'm hearing rumbles that the early belief is that Glennon can be a good fit in this system.
But, if the Bucs are totally sold on a quarterback that's available in the first round, they may have no choice but to take him because chances at franchise quarterbacks don't come along very often.
