A year ago, the Tampa Bay coaching staff was saying defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was ready for a breakout season.

This time around, a new coaching staff just wants to see Bowers get into shape. Bowers missed the early part of the team's offseason program as he recovered from an unspecified injury and that set him back.

“He's practicing now, working on getting into shape," defensive line coach Joe Cullen said. "He's not there yet. He's got to get into great shape to be able to do those things. But I see a lot of signs that he can be what everybody thought coming out of college. Again a lot of that will depend on how he gets into shape and some of the things that happen in preseason. He's working towards that.

The offseason program ends next week with a minicamp, so it would be a good idea for Bowers to continue working out on his own. Bowers never has lived up to his potential and he's heading into the final year of his rookie contract.

The new coaching staff and front office aren't wed to Bowers and he needs to show up in shape for training camp to make the team.
