We continue our list of the top 15 Buccaneers with No. 7:
Michael Johnson, defensive end
What he did in 2013: Playing for Cincinnati, Johnson played in 15 games and produced 3.5 sacks. That total was a little disappointing, but Johnson had 11.5 sacks in 2012.
Why he’s No. 7 in 2014: The Bucs are betting that Johnson’s 2012 performance is more indicative of his true talent and that’s why they gave him a big contract in free agency. At 27, Johnson is in his prime and the Bucs want him to be their top pass-rusher. He should provide an upgrade over last season when the Bucs generated very little pass rush on the outside. With defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on the inside, the Bucs believe Johnson can get back to double-digit sacks.
