#NFLRank: Darrelle Revis No. 4
By Pat Yasinskas
The final installment of #NFLRank is out and that means it’s time to look at the top 10 players in the league on offense and defense.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got one representative in the top 10. That was cornerback Darrelle Revis, who was acquired in the biggest trade of the offseason. He came in at No. 4 on the defensive list.
ESPN Stats & Information: Revis is joining a team that allowed 297.4 passing yards per game last season, the second-highest total in NFL history. The Buccaneers also have allowed a league-high 21 touchdowns of at least 30 yards over the past two seasons.
Yasinskas comment: Tampa Bay fans are a little like fans of the Boston Red Sox or Chicago Cubs. They always are expecting the worse. I’ve been shocked at the reaction ever since the Bucs landed Revis. A lot of the conversations I’ve heard begin with, “If he’s healthy’’. Yes, Revis is coming off ACL surgery and that’s significant. But plenty of players have come back successfully from similar surgeries in recent years. Revis has had nearly a full calendar year to recover and there haven’t been any setbacks. I strongly believe Revis can get back to being the player he used to be. If he does, the Bucs will have the best cornerback in the NFL.
