Buccaneers making Pro Bowl push

By Pat Yasinskas

TAMPA, Fla. -- When I walked into One Buccaneer Place this morning, there was a gift from the media relations department on my desk -- and every other desk in the media room.

It was a spiffy pamphlet highlighting Tampa Bay’s Pro Bowl candidates. Linebacker Lavonte David, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, cornerback Darrelle Revis, wide receiver Vincent Jackson and safety Mark Barron are featured in the document, which lists their statistics.

When the early results of Pro Bowl fan voting were released last week, the Bucs had only two players (Revis and David) among the top 10 at their respective positions. That’s why it’s a smart move by the Bucs to try to get the word out about these guys.

I think there’s no question that David and McCoy are having Pro Bowl seasons. Same for Revis, who has been as good as advertised. Jackson and Barron are having nice seasons, but their numbers aren’t outrageous.

The key for any of the Bucs to make the Pro Bowl will be the voting by coaches and players. Revis is a household name, but David and McCoy have lower profiles. David and McCoy should get more attention from coaches and players because they’re respected throughout the league.
