Will Bucs trade No. 7 pick?
By Pat Yasinskas
The rumors are flying about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trading out of the No. 7 overall spot in the draft.
One rumor has the Bucs trading up to No. 2 to get quarterback Johnny Manziel. Another has them trading down and adding a pick or picks.
What’s the truth? We won’t find out until tonight, but I’ve got some theories now.
Although I think the Bucs should draft Manziel if they stay at No. 7, I don’t think it would be a good move to trade up to No. 2. According to this value chart, the Bucs would have to give up way too much to get up to No. 2. They probably would have to give up something like this year’s first-, second- and third-round choices as well as a pick in 2015.
I see trading down as a much more likely possibility. At the moment, the Bucs have only six picks in this draft (they don’t have a fourth-round choice). I think general manager Jason Licht would love to add to his pick count.
This is a deep draft and the Bucs still could get a quality player if they trade down to the middle of the first round. They also could add another early-round pick.
