Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tony Sparano

TAMPA, Fla. – One of the byproducts of being one of the first new coaches hired is that Tampa Bay’s Lovie Smith is getting who he wants as assistant coaches.

The latest reported hiring is offensive line coach Tony Sparano. That’s a big score for the Buccaneers because Sparano comes with a lengthy résumé. Most recently, he served as offensive line coach and assistant head coach for the Oakland Raiders. Sparano also spent three years as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

The addition of Sparano is a key move because the offensive line was one of Tampa Bay’s biggest weak spots last season. Guard Carl Nicks missed most of the season with injuries and the rest of the line didn’t play up to its potential.

It’s possible the Bucs will try to overhaul that line in the offseason. Now, they’ve got a veteran offensive line coach to oversee the process.
