RTC: Examining special teams

11/21/2013

Reading the coverage of the Tennessee Titans…

Special teams have often been a fiasco for the Titans, particularly with the return games. Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean delves into all the problems.

Kenny Britt’s frustrated by his reduced playing time but says he’s working hard not to show it, says Wyatt.

To which I say: It’s baffling that he says “I am definitely surprised with me not playing. I really don’t know the reason, and I don’t ask the reason why, I just go out there and do my job.” It’s a big part of the problem that he doesn’t know the reason. The reason is that he’s caught 30.7 percent of the passes thrown his way this season.

Two other items of note in Wyatt’s notebook that was topped by the Britt story: Brian Schwenke likes his chance to play in Oakland and Akeem Ayers was fined $7,500 for a hit on Andrew Luck.

Moise Fokou seems on track to return from his knee injury, but it’s unlikely he will step back into the sort of full workload he had before he got hurt, says David Boclair of the Nashville Post.

The Titans offensive line ranks in the middle of the NFL pack according to Khaled Elsayed of Pro Football Focus.

To which I say: The big investment and all the talk of being offensive-line centered has to produce better than that.
