Titans searched as often as Rockies, Flames

Based on Google search frequency, the Tennessee Titans rate just behind baseball’s Colorado Rockies and even with the NHL’s Calgary Flames in popularity.

That’s in global search traffic of teams in the five most searched major North American professional leagues and comes from Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight.com.

The Titans rank 80th on the list, behind four teams from Liga MX, the top Mexican soccer league.

Only the Jacksonville Jaguars are less looked for than the Titans in global Google searches among NFL teams.

I believe the Titans are making the right move divorcing from Chris Johnson. But he's been their most notable name for some time, so subtracting him isn't going to help the Titans on a list like this one.

Global popularity is nice, but local popularity is a necessity. The Titans have been and remain the No. 1 sports story in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

So they've got that going for them, which is nice.
