Heat bracing for extended Haslem absence after MRI shows tear

MIAMI – The news on the Heat’s injuries after a round of MRIs Sunday was not surprising but also not very good.

Test showed that Udonis Haslem does indeed have a torn ligament in his left foot after going down while playing defense Saturday in Memphis. Teammates were told that Haslem had a torn ligament and a dislocated toe.

The Heat plan to have Haslem see a specialist on Monday before they announce what his treatment plan and recovery time will be. It is a complex injury but normally the minimum recovery time is six weeks.

No matter what, the Heat know they will be without their leading rebounder for an extended period.

Dwyane Wade also had an MRI on Sunday on his left wrist, which he hurt Friday night and caused him to miss Saturday’s game. The test confirmed that Wade had a sprain and the team is listing him as a day-to-day.

Because it is so early in the season, expect the Heat try to be conservative in bringing Wade back. Miami hosts Indiana Monday night but Wade likely has his eyes on Wednesday, when the Heat travel to Orlando to take on the Magic on ESPN.
