LeBron James leads the Heat in dunking style points, but who's tops on the team in overall dunks?

After Blake Griffin, the league’s most thunderous dunker, visited AmericanAirlines Arena for the first time, we thought it was time to take a look how the Heat’s dunkers measure up. Which of the Big Three dunks the most? Where do the Heat rank in the league? Who dunks the most as a percentage of his field goal attempts? We’ll get into it all here.

First, let’s look at how the team compares to the rest of the league. The Heat employ the talents of the Big Three but is that enough to pace the league in the dunk category?

Surprised? Miami is tied with Memphis and Boston for 18th in the total dunks this season. Led by Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, the Clippers actually have 124 more dunks than the Heat this season. In Sunday's meeting, the Heat and Clippers were even as Blake Griffin and Dwyane Wade each registered two dunks on the day.

Looking at the standings, there doesn’t seem to be much of a relationship between dunks and winning. For instance, the Clippers have twice as many dunks as the Spurs but the Spurs have twice as many wins as the Clippers. With that in mind, the Heat shouldn’t sweat their ranking.

But who dunks the most on the Heat? Is it LeBron James or Dwyane Wade? The answer:

Miami Heat Dunks

Here we see that the team's dunk crown belongs to Wade, not James -- that is, if we disregard style points. Wade has 59 dunks to his name, which ranks as the 15th most in the NBA. In the category of guards, Wade sits just behind Andre Iguodala for first place. The Sixer has totaled 65 dunks this season. Wade also leads the Heat in average minutes between dunks (29.3), although Jamaal Magloire is a darkhorse coming in at 44 minutes per dunk.

There's an interesting contrast between the Heat's centers as Ilgauskas has the lowest dunk percentage (percentage of field goal attempts that ended in a dunk) on the team while Anthony has the squad's highest rate if we exclude Magloire. Ilgauskas mixes in a slew of mid-range shots and tip-ins whereas Anthony doesn't exactly boast a highly diversified portfolio of shot types. For reference, Utah forward Jeremy Evans leads the NBA in dunk percentage with a 50 percent figure as 26 of his 52 field goal attempts were dunks.

Who's looking for their first dunk this season? Mike Miller, Juwan Howard, James Jones, Mario Chalmers, Eddie House, and Carlos Arroyo have yet to throw down in 2010-11. Miller and Howard may slam one home this season but don't hold your breath for the others.

So who do you think is the best dunker on the Heat?
