A little while ago, we put out the call, looking for a Blazers blog for the TrueHoop Network.
There is an embarrassment of riches in the world of Blazer blogs and bloggers. Honestly. That's a one-team city that's really into the internet, and really into NBA basketball, and it shows in the number of smart, talented writers who are willing to spend their days blogging away about the fact that Travis Outlaw is out of his walking boot, or Rudy Fernandez is shuffling through some drills with Patty Mills.
After all kinds of reading and phone calls and e-mails and thinking -- huge thanks to everyone who reached out to us -- Kevin Arnovitz and I selected the new blog Portland Roundball Society to be in the TrueHoop Network.
Have a look.
The site's publisher is Portland-based Andrew R. Tonry. He has covered politics, art and sports for MTV, the Associated Press, The Portland Mercury, Skyscraper Magazine, The Tico Times, NBA.com and others. As an intern he wrote and blogged for the Trail Blazers organization for two years, and has covered the team intermittently for the Mercury ever since. He also blogs regularly about music for End Hits. Tonry grew up in Eugene, and once dunked a basketball on the courts under the bridge where the hoops are just below regulation.
Also among the contributors will be the estimable Ezra Ace Caraeff, who writes about all kinds of stuff for the Portland Mercury, including the Blazers.
Day one of the blog's life in the TrueHoop Network kicks off with a practice interrupted by shouting between the coach and point guard yesterday, the Lakers in town tonight, half the roster out injured and high expectations all around.
Plenty to write about! Best of luck, Andrew, Ezra and company. We'll be reading.
