- Sundiata Gaines was the hero. But a couple of other notable Jazz performances. HOLY COW THAT KYLE KORVER SHOT WAS AWFUL. Honestly, at the moment of release, my thought was: You can't get a better shot than that? That's like the definition of the kind of shot the defense wants you to take. Because it's impossible. But that's not all. Ronnie Price defied some math, too. John Krolik of Cavs the Blog writes: "Ronnie Price bangs in a three off the dribble. Price is a 32% career three-point shooter and has now made seven threes on the season. ... After two Cavs FT makes, Price then draws a foul in five seconds and makes both free throws. He is a 56% FT shooter on the year."
- Spencer of Salt City Hoops on what he's calling "The Sundiata Game": "After the game a reporter asked Jerry Sloan 'So, does this mean you’re going to sign Gaines to another 10-day contract?' Sloan smiled and said we're going to sign him for the whole year.'" (Although, in fact, they have just signed him to second ten-day contract.) Gaines could play in the NBA for two decades, by the way, and already have his best moment behind him.
- Phil Jackson says he would not like to be a general manager because he does not like to lie. He explains.
- In 2010, star athletes have the potential to be on camera, and on record, just about every moment they are in public. It drives some people crazy. But it's A-OK with Sonny Weems.
- What I noticed about the Bulls last night: Between Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas, Taj Gibson, Luol Deng, James Johnson ... there are a lot of lively dudes with long arms eager to stick their hands up to protect the rim. In general, I believe Wayne Winston's theories about the merit of playing Brad Miller with a bunch of scorers. But that worked best when Ben Gordon was in the mix, and last night it seemed like it was frenetic activity around the rim that most bothered Boston, and for that, you have to keep Miller on the bench.
- Zach Lowe of CelticsHub: My personal version of hell is standing on a hot New York City subway platform as train after train full of clapping Joakim Noahs goes by.
- Dwight Howard says he'd pick Carmelo Anthony over LeBron James or Kobe Bryant.
- The other night against the Spurs, Russell Westbrook took the two biggest shots for the Thunder, while Kevin Durant couldn't even get the ball. Whose fault is it that the Thunder's star wasn't taking those shots? A whodunnit photo examination.
- A strong hint that Shannon Brown might be in the dunk contest.
- People who score as many points as Joe Johnson tend to spend a lot more time at the free throw line. Someone needs to send him to Flopping Academy, I guess.
- Video of the Nets not playing well. Twitter transcription of Chris Douglas-Roberts hating the lack of success.
- Kevin Martin returns tonight.
- While the Magic are in Portland, a blogger for the centerless Blazers hopes they might accidentally leave Marcin Gortat behind. And while Portland has just had three wings injured, with the way Martell Webster has played, they could soon have a hard time finding a way to get last year's starter, Nicolas Batum on the court. Talk of playing him as a power forward.
- It's not true to say that Tracy McGrady has never been a key part of playoff success.
- Nice lip stitch.
- Lots of D-League people get really fuzzy when asked to say whether the D-League is the best basketball outside the NBA. But Daryl Morey doesn't split hairs. He says the answer is no. Spain is better. I say they should play each other!
- The Timberwolves have not been good when big man Ryan Hollins is on the floor. Ryan Gomes, on the other hand ...
