The streaking Jazz climbed into a top-four seed in the West with last night’s impressive win in Portland, maintaining their hold on the top spot in the Power Rankings in the process. But it could be tough sledding for Utah the next few days.
One of the keys to the Jazz’s success has been a rare bout of sustained health from Carlos Boozer, one that came to an end Wednesday night when he departed with a right calf strain. Boozer’s history has been that seemingly innocuous injuries end up costing him months, and the Jazz hope that won’t be the case this time around. Meanwhile, teammate Deron Williams will miss Friday’s game against Sacramento to attend a funeral.
Utah plays 10 of its next 12 against teams with winning records, so the Jazz need to hope Boozer comes back soon. While they have a replacement in Paul Millsap, it was Boozer’s All-Star-caliber production that had allowed Utah to overcome its glaring lack of outside shooting.
