Hoopshype has word of a report that Don Nelson might replace Rick Adelman in Sacramento.

As reliable as NBA rumors buried deep in Racine, WI newspapers usually are... this one would defy all sense. If we have learned anything from the last year, it is that replacing Don Nelson with Avery Johnson has led to shocking improvements in the Dallas Mavericks. Turns out those dudes could play defense. What a terrible oversight to not get them to do so for all those years...

Meanwhile, Rick Adelman just used two rejects, Ron Artest and Bonzi Wells, to give the reigning champion San Antonio Spurs a serious run for their money, and yet the Maloofs won't give Adelman a vote of confidence. I could see replacing Adelman if Phil Jackson (or, for that matter, Avery Johnson) were on the market. But to fire him just to see what's out there? That seems stupid to me.

UPDATE: Adelman is no more in Sacramento. The Maloofs said they hadn't even talked to each other yet a day ago. That was a little white lie. I wonder that their beef is with him--or who they have waiting in the wings.
