  • Them crazy basketball bloggers collaborated on a mock draft. I picked for the Blazers. There's a podcast and everything. They're releasing the results in reverse order, which puts my shaky James Augustine pick at #30 in the spotlight. I could have had Guillermo Diaz, or that guy from Villanova.
  • Betting on the NBA draft. Wow. That's new to me.
  • Mike Tokito: "Tyrus Thomas of LSU pulled out of his solo workout for the Blazers that had been scheduled for Tuesday. Art Sasse, Blazers vice president of communication, said Thomas’ agent informed the Blazers that a team with a higher pick had promised it would select Thomas. Speculation is that Chicago is the team that has targeted Thomas." In the same post, LaMarcus Aldridge says that he doesn't dance, doesn't drink, and doesn't see the point in going out. Check back after two years of the life, LaMarcus.
  • Adam Morrison and Rudy Gay get a rematch, but apparently the Bulls are better at closing the blinds than the Trail Blazers, so no first-hand reports (that I have seen, anyway).
  • The Mavericks are getting all the bad press, and Shaquille O'Neal is helping strangers.
  • Carnival of the NBA.
  • Saer Sene video. I wouldn't call them "highlights," but man he has some long arms.
  • Chad Ford: "Darius Miles' days in Portland are numbered, and management has to begin finding ways of exciting Portland fans again. The pro-Morrison "Draft the Stache" campaign proves that Portland fans still care. Look for the Blazers to attempt to move up in the draft to get him. They're offering the Raptors anyone on the roster with the exception of Martell Webster and Jarrett Jack."
  • Basketbawful: "...after fighting through two sprained ankles, a sprained thumb, a sprained ring finger, a sore hamstring, getting tagged in the balls by Avery Johnson, and then using the Mav's final timeout, essentially costing his team a chance at a last second shot to win game 5...does bad karma just follow Josh Howard around?"
  • Jim O'Brien: "In all likelihood freezing the shooter was on Howard's mind when he saw Johnson signal with his hands that the coach wanted a timeout. Howard is a smart kid and knows strategy. He not only has plenty of experience at the pro level in these end-of-game scenarios, he also played for Skip Prosser, a master strategist at Wake Forest. I am not trying to make an excuse for Howard, who made a major blunder in signaling for the timeout. He should have known the situation. Still, Johnson was incensed at Joe DeRosa and probably had good reason to be angry." He goes on to explain that Bennett Salvatore realized Avery Johnson's intent, and the referees could have used their discretion to waive Howard's timeout call.
  • Darren Rovell: Michael Jordan is investing in a Charlotte team that doesn't seem to be a rousing business success. "One NBA insider told me that it's a small investment -- he estimated that Jordan's purchase was for 6 percent to 15 percent of the team -- to serve as a steppingstone for his next big thing. But I sense turning the Bobcats into a good business isn't the type of slam dunk that a guy like Jordan needs to allow some of the other league businessmen to have faith in him without a basketball in his hands."
  • Quick, name a Maverick honcho who isn't in the news every day complaining. Remember Donnie Nelson? He built this team.
  • FreeDarko: "When Wade is on, the Mavs haven't been the Mavs. When the Mavs show

and prove, Wade has been largely absent. The second statement has
clear causal resonance; the first, maybe."

  • Ira Winderman: "Tuesday night has to be the night for the Heat. If it can't win after demoralizing Dallas for three games in South Florida, then how can it expect to win a Game 7 after Dallas regains it footing?... Three times the Heat has gotten the opposition back on its heels; three times the Heat has provided the finishing kick."
  • Steve Kerr, king of the long jumper: "The Mavericks can't bail out the Heat by settling for long jumpers."
  • Charley Rosen: "Forget about shooting percentages, turnovers, and all the other misleading numbers. Winning, and losing NBA titles is all about poise."
  • The Mavericks are overwhelming favorites among bettors tonight. ``I think the whole team is (ticked) off,`` coach Avery Johnson told the AP following a workout Monday. ``We should be ready to go.``
