It has now been two whole months since New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov declared the team's No. 1 need to be a power forward of the burly variety who can bang down low and relieve some of the rebounding pressure off Brook Lopez.
The draft brought a power forward project in Derrick Favors, a kid who just turned 19 Thursday -- the same day the Nets were introducing Billy King as their new GM -- and is simply not ready yet for a full-time spot in the rotation.
With Luis Scola now off the market, the free agent pickings at that position are meager (anyone care for a Jason Collins comeback?). Which means one of the first things King will try to do in his new job is try to trade for someone who plays that position.
"There are a couple of guys I have in mind. I'll start making calls today, and you have to be a pest," King said. "Mitch [Kupchak] said he kept calling and calling when he was trying to get Pau (Gasol), and it took a year, but he got him."
To read more about what King had to say at his introductory news conference, including the pressure he is under to win a championship by 2015 to keep Prokhorov's bachelor status intact, click here to read a column on that subject I have written for the ESPNNewYork site.
