  • The draft through the eyes of a non-fan.
  • FreeDarko is putting IM chats on blogs too. I did that, until people told me they hated it. But I'm going to do it again. It's good.
  • Mark Heisler: "The 76ers shopped Allen Iverson so aggressively, they were close to sending him to Boston for Wally Szczerbiak, Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and the No. 7 pick, in a deal that foundered when they couldn't find a third team to make it work under the salary cap rules."
  • Laker fan Kurt at Forum Blue and Gold wrote TrueHoop's essay on Jordan Farmar. Then his Lakers drafted Farmar! No one saw that coming.
  • Dick Vitale: "Brandon Roy will ultimately be a star out of the gate..." OK, Dick, ultimately means "at the end." Out of the gate means "at the beginning." See, you're wasting our time here.
  • Cornball thought about Rajon Rondo: they shouldn't pronounce that "J" cause he doesn't have one.
  • Comment on Ira Winderman's blog: "Why didn't the heat go after DIAZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Why???? He fell to 50! Teams were giving away cash considerations for draft picks, jeez. :("
  • This was the winner of the CelticsBlog draft challenge. Four out of first ten wrong. Tough year to pick.
  • Crafty Veteran: "There are 50 players in the league that are like Shelden Williams. There are only a few that are potentially as good as Randy Foye, Brandon Roy, and LaMarcus Aldridge."
  • Isiah Thomas says the Phoenix Suns were certain to take Renaldo Balkman with the 21st pick if the Knicks didn't take him 20th.
  • All the trades. The Battier/Gay trade isn't official until July.
  • Whit Watson: "The first 'whooooa!' moment of the draft came when Seattle used the 10th overall pick to draft a 20-year-kid from Senegal who last year averaged 3 points and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes per game for a pro team in Belgium. There's an old saying in the NBA: anytime you have a chance to spend a lottery pick on an underage Senegali who averages single digits in Belgium, you gotta pull that trigger."
  • Andy Katz on the players who had bad nights: Darius Washington, P.J. Tucker, Daniel Gibson, Alexander Johnson, Leon Powe, Guillermo Diaz, Marcus Slaughter, Curtis Stinson, Gerry McNamara, Mike Gansey, Kevin Pittsnogle, Steven Smith, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, and Carl Krauser.
  • Matt from BlogaBull: "So put away your draft report cards for a couple years. Nobody knows yet how Thomas and Sefolosha will fit with this team, and if Thomas will actually reach his star potential. Aldridge was my guy, but what the hell do I know. It's clear Pax got the guys he wanted, and for now that means his draft grade is an A."
  • ClipperBlog goes into the history books to prove assessments today are largely meaningless.
  • This is crazy. Gilbert Arenas is willing to take a paycut to make his team better, but the Collective Bargaining Agreement won't allow it. This would be so good for basketball if this could happen. Think how Washington would love Arenas, and the team would be better. To me, that's the Player's Association acting against the long-term best interests of its members.
  • Maurice Ager is designed to guard Dwyane Wade, it seems. Avery Johnson via Maverick Moneyball: "We like Ager’s defensive skills. We think coming out of last year, we’re pretty good defensively at the point guard spot and at the three-spot but we thought we had to get better defensively at the two-spot but also have someone that can score. As much as we stress defense, coming out of this season we know we want to have guys who can defend but we need guys who can also score."
  • The case for Saer Sene.
  • SportsBiz: "So listen up Bristol suits, we want our EuroLeague and we want it now. This season. No more Knick games They're much too painful to watch. Give us Benneton and Maccabi Tel Aviv and give it to us this year."
  • More and more people are talking about Ben Wallace leaving Detroit. Probably just floating that idea for hardball negotiating.
