- Great roundup of recent activity on the front lines of the sneaker wars. (Related update: SportsLaw mentions the same story of companies squabbling over a ten-year-old.) (Another related update! Brian McCormick goes off on the notion of recruiting ten-year-olds.)
- Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press on Ben Wallace's departure from Detroit: "What's the difference between another $52 million and another $60 million? What effect could that possibly have on the man's life? Have you seen Ben's wardrobe? How expensive are those sweatshirts? It's not about the money. It's about what the money represents."
- Chris McCosky of the Detroit News says Nazr Mohammed might not start in Detroit and says he disappointed Gregg Popovich because he couldn't catch or pass the ball very well in the post. McCosky also talks about the potential for further roster changes: "The Pistons still have the bi-annual exception ($1.75 million) at their disposal, which they plan to use to acquire a veteran perimeter player -- preferably one who can play multiple positions and break defenses down off the dribble. Former Pistons guard Chucky Atkins is one candidate, as is Tony Delk, who finished the season with the Pistons last year. Dumars could explore a trade, using Davis, whose $3.5 million contract expires after the season, and perhaps one or two of the team's first-round draft picks."
- Basketball, the most dangerous sport in America.
- Pistons fans called him crazy. Brian McCormick: "How would my Ben Wallace (and other pieces) for Bonzi Wells and Shareef Abdur-Rahim trade proposal look now?"
- McCormick wants the Pistons to sign Speedy Claxton. Too late.
- Betting on next season's champion. Miami and San Antonio are favorites, Portland is not. Phoenix is ahead of Dallas, Detroit and New Jersey are ahead of Chicago. None of this means anything unless you're a bettor. But it's fun to talk about.
- The Wizards want to improve from within, and they think Oleksiy Pecherov can be part of that.
- Ron Artest reportedly playing summer league! He gets an A+ for love of the game. I love this player. I hate this player. I love this player. I hate this player. I love this player.
- Brian Windhorst says we can expect to hear from LeBron James soon. Maybe today.
- Paul Shirley, ex b-team NBA player, now full-time b-team celebrity, decides to moonlight again as a b-team NBA player on Minnesota's summer league team. I pray they don't make him stop blogging. The man has insight. He's like a spy for sanity in the insane world of the NBA.
- According to what Ben Wallace reportedly told Scott Skiles, as reported by Sam Smith, Ben Wallace wanted a tougher brand of coaching. Seems like maybe Flip Saunders was part of the reason after all. Via BlogaBull.
- Good background on Nazr Mohammed.
- Give money to Lamar Odom's charity, get half-off a Free Darko shirt.
- GM Wars! John Paxson vs. Danny Ainge. Advantage: Paxson.
- Dan Wetzel says you can give the future of the eastern conference to three players: "James, 21, Wade, 24, and Howard, 20, are not just three good young players with bright futures. They are generational basketball talents, guys so good, so determined, so clutch that it is impossible not to envision them dominating the NBA (and certainly the East) for years and years to come."
- Watching Adam Morrison practice.
- Wrapping up the Eddie Griffin saga, with some more gossip--remember that hotel incident that doomed his stint in New Jersey a while back? This is the first I have read of this version of events.
