Sarunas Jasikevicius is 29, a gamer, and perhaps the biggest star in Europe at the moment. He's a free agent who plays both guard positions and is dying to join the NBA. He's only coming over if he gets a decent contract and playing time.

I think he'll get all that, and he'll be a leading candidate for rookie of the year. Greg Abel writes in today's Washington Postthat several NBA teams are hot for Jasikevicius:

"He's a tremendous open-court passer, a big-game player, and a big playmaker, the likes of which you don't find every day anywhere," said David Blatt, a former assistant coach with Maccabi who recruited Jasikevicius to Tel Aviv. "When the money is on the line, Saras is going to step up and make plays."

Indiana, Portland, Boston, Dallas, Utah and Cleveland are said to be the teams most interested. Those teams have some of the best GMs in the league.

The Blazers certainly didn't hold him a roster spot last night. With Sebastian Telfair, Derek Andreson (if he's still around), possibly Gordon Giricek, Jarrett Jack, Martell Webster, and (maybe) Richie Frahm things are getting pretty crowded back there.
