- Although nothing is yet totally official, the news of the weekend was the reported Steve Blake, Brian Skinner, and Ha Seung-Jin for Jamaal Magloire trade. Milwaukee gets Blake, a cost-effective guard, as the main prize. Portland gets another quality big man, this one with an expiring contract. (The Blazers have been shedding point guards like crazy. With Jarrett Jack the only one left from last year, suddenly it's clear why they were so concerned about Dan Dickau's health when they traded with Boston.) The Sydney Morning Herald almost makes it sound like the trade was Andrew Bogut's idea. Ian Furness has been ahead of the story.
- Thanks Sam, for being the first of many in giving me the heads up about this article, in which Josh Hartnett demonstrates the proper way to put down the Trail Blazers: don't criticize them for being criminals, because they're not. But the worst team in the NBA? Hard to argue that one if you can read last season's standings.
- Yesterday's Boston Globe planted the seed that perhaps the Sixers are for sale. Sixers say it's not so.
- The Nets got good grades for their draft last year right after it happened. What about now?
- George Karl coached what may be the most disappointing Team USA in history: the 2002 version that came in sixth. Chris Tomasson talks to him about the 2006 team, which he plans to watch closely. (He also links to Karl's charity website, which is interesting.)
- John Canzano should not be linked to for throwing this stuff out there. But I'm a sucker. Zach Randolph for Allen Iverson, anyone?
- Nike spending more on endorsements--getting close to $500 million a year.
- Even better than owning an NBA team is owning a team's share of the NBA's TV revenue forever, without having to go to the trouble of actually running an NBA team. Meet the Silnas, who used to own the St. Louis Blues, and have the sweetest business deal in the history of business deals.
- FreeDarko--well worth reading on the topic of USA Basketball.
- SonicsCentral beats the mainstream media to the scent of a Wilcox signing.
- Wally Szczerciak's knee is worrisome.
- How about a small one year deal, Bonzi?
- Pat Da Roc alley oops with his feet.
