  • Rick Barry needs a job again. Rick, if you're reading, you're always welcome to share your thoughts here on TrueHoop. If it's important to you, I'll even start shooting free throws under-handed. It doesn't pay, but neither does crime, right?
  • Sick Judge sucks for Celtics: Tony Allen's trial postponed, could mess with the Celtics' season. If he's convicted of aggravated assault, it could theoretically mess with several seasons. From a December 2005 Peter May article: "A Cook County grand jury last month indicted Allen on the three counts for his alleged role in a fight that escalated into a shooting at White Palace Grill Aug. 28. He is accused of punching a man in the face and breaking his left eye socket during the fight, during which a man was shot in the left arm. Police have said that Allen is not a suspect in the shooting. Aggravated assault carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail."
  • Harvey Araton writes a great (TimesSelect) column about Dikembe Mutombo's hospital that is about to open in Kinshasa. One sad note: "N.B.A. family fund-raising was still more problematic than Mutombo anticipated it would be. For all of the league’s African-American influence, for all its global ambitions, he never did get the widespread player support he had hoped for." Deke's not down about it, though. You can see the construction in progress on his foundation's site.
  • People ask me every day. What's the state of basketball in Taiwan? Well, wonder no more, my friends. Aloneconformist is here with a report. (Highlight: "...they were recently beat in the Jones Cup final by a Christian goodwill team...")
  • Dan Wetzel doesn't seem to realize the "dreaming up a roster for Team USA" phase has been over for a while.
  • Does basketball make you grin like a little kid?

  • The US Handles Korea 111-63 to conclude their exhibition schedule. If you click that link, it says you can watch the game at 1:30 this afternoon eastern time on ESPN. LeBron James had 19 points in the first half.
  • How to take the perfect rookie portrait, by J.E. Skeets.
  • George Shinn's new favorite city: New Orleans! (Again!)
  • 17-year-old guard makes the China roster. In a Yao Ming vs. Andrew Bogut duel, Bogut misses a key free throw and Yao hits the game winner.
  • Ranking the rookies, based on really nothing that matters at all. But what the hell...
