  • David Thorpe says Kwame Brown could still become amazing, for what it's worth, but Basketbawful isn't buying it. Oh, who am I kidding. Click that link for a hilarious photo of Phil Jackson and some L.A. Knockers. (Safe for work, don't worry.)
  • Goodbye, sprawling, private indoor New York City basketball courts.
  • Steve Kerr ranks Portland last in the West. Dallas is first, but who cares. The rest goes San Antonio, Phoenix, Clippers, Lakers, Minnesota, Sacramento and Houston make the playoffs. New Orleans, Utah, Denver, Memphis, Golden State, Seattle, and Portland limp home. The Portland fan in me feels wronged somehow, but I can't tell you which of those teams Portland will beat.
  • LaMarcus Aldridge, recovering from shoulder surgery, is reportedly ahead of schedule.
  • Tracy McGrady talks to Chris Sheridan: "I've been dealing with it [chronic back pain] for six years now, and it's really not a major problem. Last year it was a major problem because I was dealing with so much with the team, the death of my wife's mom, my issues. I had worked so hard in the offseason, I had a great preseason, probably the best preseason I ever had, and for my back to go out like that right after the first [regular season] game, I was stressed. And I think stress goes to the weakest part of your body, and my back at the time was the weakest part of my body. It hindered me throughout the whole season, and I could never get healthy. But I'm stress free, I'm feeling good, I worked extremely hard, got on a strict diet and I've never felt better. Without a doubt, I'm 100 percent. Without a doubt."
  • The latest installment in "I'm an Intramural Ref."
  • Anderson Varejao says the weird fatigue in his legs is gone, may have been caused by air travel.
  • Brian Windhorst on media treatment in Cleveland and, more importantly, the unheard of no view luxury suite: "Also, they've put in new underground suites that don't even have a view of the court and are under the stands. To make room, the media was booted from its long-standing courtside seats and from its media room (they gave us a much smaller one with no bathroom). Sort of tells you what the Cavs think about us, eh? They don't need us as much when things are going well."
  • Tim Kawakami: "I’m curious to see if Nelson keeps up on that barbed method with Baron–which might produce some fireworks–or if he starts backing off and kissing up starting today. Hey, either way might be right. But I think the jabs, coming from a respected tough NBA coach, probably will produce more from Baron than Montgomery’s distant and entirely non-judgemental approach. I also think Nelson has an ace up his sleeve with Baron. Actually, two of them: Dunleavy as a significant ball-distributor, and Monta Ellis as a little man who deserves a ton of playing time. If Baron keeps slipping, Ellis and Dunleavy might be able to produce more for the Warriors under Nelson. Maybe."
  • The new Steve Smith.
  • Lots of pictures of NBA players' chests. Weird.

  • Something about this Doug Smith line is very post-World Championships: "Where last year he was pretty much forced to play journeymen like Loren Woods, Aaron Williams and Eric Williams and an obviously overmatched Rafael Araujo, he now has free agents Jorge Garbajosa, Anthony Parker and Fred Jones to pick from, as well as two-year vet Joey Graham and rookies P.J. Tucker and Uros Slokar who will be battling for minutes."

  • Two more charged in the Duquesne shooting.
