  • You can see this two ways. Either it's honoring Red Auerbach's memory by adjusting the Celtic logo to reflect Red in a couple of key ways (gets Red hair and a stogey, instead of black hair and a pipe). Or it's doing I-don't-know-what to Red Auerbach's legacy, by causing generations of future Bostonians to think Auerbach was a leprechaun.
  • Some fantastic insight into Kobe Bryant. Helicopters, wardrobes, UFOs...
  • Allen Iverson might miss the All-Star game, opening up another spot. Let's assume Carmelo Anthony and Josh Howard are in, to me this spot is a battle between Baron Davis and Zach Randolph. UPDATE: Or Mehmet Okur, or Kevin Martin. UPDATE: Or Ray Allen.

  • Players who don't quite make the NBA don't make much money.
  • Somewhere a freshly cut Julius Hodge is googling "Damir Markota."
  • Celtic owner Wyc Grousbeck (one of my favorite NBA owners) visits the locker room and lends support to his coach and GM.
  • Don't play knockout against Luke Walton. He's pretty good, even this is a blatant ripoff of the Wizards' home video of a shooting contest. It felt better when it wasn't staged.
  • Ron Artest's pet care skills are worse than we thought, and we thought they were bad.
  • At the beginning of the season, I wrote that if the Raptors turned out to be good, the floodgates from Europe would open. As of this point in the season, I think we can all agree that the Raptors are better than expected, and I just got an e-mail from reader Jordi Lluch in Spain: "Today starts the spaniard basketball king's cup, probably the most watched hoops event by NBA scouts outside USA (after Euroleague final four). All the NBA teams will have scouts watching live the games. Some teams have here BIG power scoutings like Jerry West, Rex Chapman and Maurizio Gherardini (word here is that some NBA teams trying to rebuild want to copy the way Toronto has rebuilt). According to Vicente Salaner, a basketball journalist with a lot of friends between american scouts and coaches, the most followed players will be: Rudy Fernandez, Mirza Teletovic, Juan Carlos Navarro, Marc Gasol, Tiago Splitter, Riky Rubio, Roko Ukic, Fran Vazquez, Scola, Michael Chylinski, Marko Tomas and Joel Freeland.
  • Those players could be drafted or have been drafted and could be signed. There could be some free agents signed (like Calderon, Garbajosa and Parker last year) between: Lubos Barton, Felipe Reyes, Charles Gaines, Hollis Price, Carlos Cabezas, German Gabriel, Florent Pietrus, Jaka Lakovic, or Michael Ignerski."
  • Damon Jones is practicing hard for the three-point contest. Jason Kapono will reportedly be there too, with his sick percentage from downtown.
  • Now that we know John Amaechi is gay, an Orlando columnist actually checked up to see whether or not Amaechi had been inappropriate with a young boy he knew. As Can't Stop the Bleeding pointed out, hope he's going to check up with all the young women who hang around NBA teams too.
  • Mark Cuban says Donald Trump is spamming him.
  • Desmond Mason gets his first game winner.
  • Martin Johnson: "The Spurs' point differential, plus 7.1, is more consistent with a higher winning percentage. This suggests that the team will go on their trademark run, but I'm not so sure. I think the league is getting hip to the Spurs' weakness. Both Chicago and Phoenix played defenses that swarmed to the Spurs stars but dared anyone else to shoot. It paid off nicely for both teams. And it doesn't take a genius to know that you'd rather have Udrih shooting than Ginobili or Duncan. The rest of the league may catch on."
  • J.A. Adande has your social guide to professional sports.
  • Jack McCallum with an early look at the playoff races.
  • Antonio Daniels says "About three people on this team know how to tie a tie." Much more on the DC Sports Bog.
  • Mark Monteith has ideas, like: when players are suspended have them sit out the next home game (so the New York fans, for instance, don't miss their only crack at Kobe Bryant), or when a player makes a pass that leads to a shooter getting foul, give the passer an assist if the free throws are made.
