  • Bill Laimbeer on a rumored Scottie Pippen comeback: "He's not making a comeback. He plays the wrong position. If he was 7-2 he could come back." Laimbeer on gays in the NBA: "To each his own," followed by extensive guffaws, whatever that means. In fairness, he throws those guffaws in after almost everything. Laimbeer on which team will win the East: Miami or Detroit. The West: Dallas, followed by Phoenix. He says the top five or six teams in the West can all win if others falter.
  • Jason Kapono is telling everyone he is a serious underdog in the three-point contest. He's shooting 56% on the season.
  • Stuff you probably don't care about: Today I met a bunch of people I had previously only known by email or phone. They include Jack McCallum, J.A. Adande, David Aldridge, and Elie Seckbach. All really very nice. I also got to see some friends like Jeramie McPeek of Suns.com, Ming Wong of HOOP, Lang Whitaker of SLAM, and Scoop Jackson, who is here with his very cute kids. I also introduced myself, as a fan, to Rick Reilly.
  • Swin Cash is probably the best interview here.
  • Tony Parker says he has an appointment to play no-limit Texas Hold 'em tonight at 1 am with Tim Duncan. He adds that Duncan is a daddy now, who usually goes to bed at 10.
  • Eddie Jordan on who will be All-Star game MVP: "I don't think it will be Shaq."
  • Every player I heard asked seemed to think Dick Bavetta will beat Charles Barkley, except Gilbert Arenas who made it a no comment because he has to suck up to both of those guys. A reporter asked if Barkley might cheat. Arenas said why not? Then he told the story of his shooting contest with DeShawn Stevenson: "I shot 73 out of 100, and he was on his way to breaking that, so I did what only an athlete can do: I cheated."
  • Nate Robinson's dunk influences include all the regulars, and Isaiah Rider. He could dunk.
