When Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry met the media after his team's victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, did he open his press conference raving about the mighty Steve Nash, who quarterbacked the Suns with 17 assists?
He did not.
Instead he opened raving about Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who had steered the Broncos to yet another come-from-behind win, this one to take the AFC wild card game on an 80-yard overtime passing play. Michael Schwartz of Valley of the Suns quotes Gentry:
I’d like to start this off by saying, to all you Tebow haters: "Take that."
That’s right, that’s right. For all you guys, all of those expert analysts out there who say he can’t do this and can’t pass, can’t run a pro offense, take that.
It just amazes me how the guy wins games, but everybody just kills the guy. I’m sure they’ll find a way to say bad things about this one, too, but he’s going and he’s playing again next week.
Reporters had a good laugh at Gentry's football trash talk, and Gentry laughed at himself, too, before adding: "That’s my team in case you didn’t know it." The whole thing is on video worth watching at Valley of the Suns.
