Look, maybe Phil Jackson doesn't want to sign a contract extension with the Lakers for strategic reasons (makes sense to see what happens with Kobe Bryant and the rest of the roster first). Or maybe he doesn't want to sign it for personal reasons. But the reason he gave in this video interview a few weeks ago with Jim Gray, is that he is hobbled. Still walking with a cane after his second hip replacement surgery in June. He doesn't even sound super confident about this season, let alone beyond that. 

Honestly, I hope he's being kind of coy with his hints about retirement. I hope he's using this as an excuse.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if his health really is a pressing daily concern, this could be the beginning of the end of one of the greatest coaching careers of all time, and I'm not ready for that.
