- It's not going to be simple for a major pro athlete to come out of the closet. Strong stuff from Kevin Arnovitz in The Advocate: "The world is never entirely prepared for social change. When our gay player comes out, there will be no parades, no plenary embrace, no pregame honors and no immediate gratification. Breaking down barriers is a painstaking, ugly slog that requires uncommon strength and faith that our best instincts will prevail. That’s why we call such an endeavor courageous."
- Charles P. Pierce on Grantland: "Years before baseball's reserve clause finally fell of its own historical inequities, Bill Veeck told his fellow owners that they should get rid of it themselves, so as to cushion the shock and to manage the aftermath to their own advantage. He was ignored and, when various courts and arbitrators blew up the system, baseball descended into a chaotic labor-management nightmare that (in many ways) has yet to resolve itself. I thought of Veeck last month when a couple of things happened that made it even more plain that the meteor is coming for college sports, and right quickly, too.
- One reason corner 3s are so effective, besides the fact they're closer: Almost none of them are off the dribble.
- Larry Sanders, best interior defender in the NBA?
- Some old PG-13 standup about Kobe Bryant shooting too much in the 2004 Finals. The big laugh line is that he shot eight-for-48. For the record, Bryant was 43-of-113 in that series.
- "My season ain't over," promises Rasheed Wallace.
- George Karl often plays Wilson Chandler instead of a big like Kosta Koufos or JaVale McGee, which not everyone loves. Some people think the Nuggets won that game on pure luck.
- Lots of Hawks shooting worse than normal from the free-throw line.
- Complications with the Maloofs sale of the Kings? Isn't everything complicated with them?
- Sounds like Martell Webster's beard is on performance-enhancing drugs.
- How to steal, slip a screen and run the flex offense.
- Bobcats vs. Cavaliers in diss raps.
- The Warriors lose in old-school fashion.
