- If you had to choose between Paul Millsap and Carlos Boozer, for long haul, taking contracts into effect ... which would you choose? A case for Paul Millsap. My biggest concern would be: If you let Boozer walk, who plays the minutes Millsap used to play?
- Niall at Hornets247 remembers Bobby Phills, who died on this day in 2000. Phills' college coach, Ben Jobe, remembered Phillls this way: "He was such a special person, I worked hard to try to steer him away from the NBA. Having coached there, I felt he didn't belong there. ... He could have been one of the foremost black leaders in the country. He had the brain power [Phills graduated from both high school and college with above a 3.0 GPA], he had the great family background. He had everything. For years, I tried to get him to go on to med school like he talked about when he was a kid."
- As Paul Pierce and Ray Allen clown around as media crowding around Kevin Garnett's locker, small reporter Holly MacKenzie finds out what it is like to be in the middle of an NBA champion sandwich.
- Photos, leaked from a TV commercial shoot, of LeBron James in a Cleveland Browns uniform.
- Teams that should have had rings, but didn't manage to get them. The 2000 Blazers make the list ... still a very sad memory for me.
- Steven D. Levitt of Freaknomics weighs in on the Darius Miles situation: "Certainly [Portland] can't keep a team from signing Miles if they think he will contribute to the team. The only possible defense Portland could have is that the team knows that Miles is not healthy, but signs him and puts him into the game just to hurt the Trail Blazers. Absent smoking-gun evidence like emails stating the motivation for signing Miles was solely to hurt the Trail Blazers, how in the world could Portland win such a case?"
- Marc Stein's Weekend Dime is a tour de force. Darius Miles, Dallas trade talk, Stephon Marbury ... Just read it if you haven't already.
- A sleep expert tells the Blazers to stay up late when they are on East Coast trips. He tells the coaching staff to change the flights so the team can sleep in late, too. And the players rave about it, while getting much better results than in years' past.
- Sean May must lose weight. It's like a lose it (weight) or lose it (playing time) deal.
- As his Cavaliers roster matures, Mike Brown is becoming one of those coaches who often does not call a timeout to stop a big run, but instead lets his team figure it out.
- Talk of Daequan Cook as a candidate for sixth man of the year. (He plays for Miami, in case you didn't know.)
- Kevin Love starting to be noticed. Britt Robson of the Secrets of the City: "Love is enjoying his best stretch of pro ball by a country mile these past few games. Not only is he more confident and willing to deploy his midrange jumper, he showed a rare feisty streak battling for rebounds on Saturday."
- Sometimes the Utah Jazz can't reach Carlos Boozer.
- Teaching the one-year-old to say "Kobe Sucks." Could be considered bad parenting, I guess. (Via BlazersEdge)
