It's official, an all-star game will take place Sunday (Sept. 11) in Houston featuring many of the NBA's biggest names to benefit the victims of hurricane Katrina.
Among those scheduled to play are LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudemire, Dwyane Wade, Jermaine O'Neal, Steve Francis, Ron Artest, Sam Cassel, Mike James, Derek Anderson, J.R. Smith, Antonio McDyess, Lindsey Hunter, Charles Oakley, Derrick Coleman, Chauncey Billups, Stephon Marbury, Paul Pierce, Alonzo Mourning and Dahntay Jones.
Tickets to the game will be sold with the proceeds going to charity, although some will be given out in Houston to those displaced by the hurricane and staying in the city. Money raised also will come from the players at the game and other sources (Marbury has already pledged $1 million and others also with six digit checks).
Huge props to TNT analyst Kenny Smith who came up with the idea and pulled it all together. Credit too for the players showing up. Finally, if you want to see the game, it will be on TNT at 11 p.m. Eastern. (The odds of it being followed by a Law and Order episode are pretty good.)
