If not for Ray Allen's series-saving 3-pointer on Tuesday night in Game 6, Jeff Ma -- who picked the Spurs in 7 games -- would've walked away with the 2013 TrueHoop Stat Geek Smackdown title. Ma's 73 points would've tied him for second on the all-time Smackdown leaderboard. Justin Kubatko scored 73 points in the 2008 Smackdown.
The upside for Ma is that he now has a chance to tie the TrueHoop Stat Geek Smackdown record high score held by Dave Berri, who ran up 75 points in the 2009 Smackdown.
If the Heat prevail at home, then "The Crowd," our ESPN Forecast panel of several dozen experts, will win the Smackdown crown for the first time. Tom Haberstroh, who picked the Heat in 7, would tie Ma for second place, beating out the other five individual geeks, but not the wisdom of the crowd.
How confident is The Crowd of its chances on Thursday night? The Forecast pegs Miami as a 61-39 favorite over San Antonio in Game 7.
