The NBA's Vegas Summer League is halfway home. David Thorpe is still at it, livetweeting away his best basketball insights.
You can pay to watch online here. You can follow Thorpe's Twitter feed here, and read his commentary from the Orlando Pro Summer League here. You can read Kevin Arnovitz's mid-week Summer League awards here. And here is a schedule of the many games taking place in Las Vegas over the next week.
Today, Thorpe begins his coverage with the tail end of the Knicks vs. Pistons game, approximately 5:30 p.m. ET
- Blatche and Young best players on floor. No surprise. Thorpe out. Back tomorrow.
- Blatche can still end up being a difference maker. I'm impressed he's here.
- Blatche. Odom. Thomas (Tyrus and Tim). Smith (Josh). Clark. Very similar guys. Too talented for their own good.
- He's just bigger.
- Blatche has filled out. But it's natural, not unnatural. Unnatural is better, because it means he'd be bigger and tighter.
- Lawson with a breakout dunk. Exploded up.
- His 3-ball looks great. Balanced and locked in.
- Nick Young looking sharp.
- McGee with 2 soft shots to get things started.
- Wizards Nugs.
- Brockman is kind of growing on me. Just blocked a shot above the rim.
- Greene tried to attack from the elbow, like Alexander did earlier. But DG took a poor/soft route and got nothing. Alexander beasted it.
- MM: Derozan 7-10, 2-4 16 pts. Really good off the curl. Q 1-7. Nothing. DeRozan just beat Griffen on flex cut for lay. 18 pts.
- MM: Clark just switched onto Douby on a ballscreen and locked him up. That's his real value!
- Evans dribbling less. That's a good thing. Passing more. Even better.
- Thompson scoring with ease inside. As he should be.
- Evans is in! And gets a quick assist to Greene.
- Tries to do a bit too much.
- Casspi looking a lot more aware on the boards. Seeing the "hustle" people talk about with him. But he gets in trouble with the ball.
- MM: Perfect execution start to finish.
- MM:Earl Clark -- pinch post catch, face, perfect bounce pass to cutting Zabian Dowdell for a weak hand lay in traffic.
- DT: Brockman really looks great, physically. And he made a terrific spin to the rim for a bucket off a post up.
- MM:Demar Derozan really comes off the curl with speed, balance and elevation-very controlled. Will come off a decades worth of pindowns.
- MM: Clark is better when he keeps it simple. 2 turnovers when things got complicated.
- Mike Moreau is in the other gym. He'll send me some tweets. So we'll be double tweeting.
- Evans did not start. Maybe he's sitting this one out.
- Heading to see the D league stars vs. Kings.
- DeRozan is going to have lots of unproductive mins. No worries. He's going to be fine.
- Clark is very assertive. 3 shots and 3 boards in 3 mins.
- Dragic vs. Ukic. As good as it gets.
- Earl Clark with 2 great passes to Lopez. Who botched both.
- Suns Raps coming.
- Taj Gibson just fouled out. That's 10 fouls. And for those keeping score, he has 19 in 2 games.
- Johnson now 3-14. But to his defense, he's facing the Iceman. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.
- There's no other way to tweet this: Johnson has been awful. 2-11. At least 6 turnovers.
- Jennings slings the ball when he shoots. That will change over time. Guaranteed.
- Jennings should spend the week after this league doing everything with his right hand. Wear an oven mitt on his left hand, on and off court.
- I'd love to tweat up James Johnson. I will when so moved. But his body language is not great.
- And he has the size to absorb contact.
- Alexander on the elbow is difficult to defend. Good first step.
- Bill is highly respected inside the NBA. Joe is in expert hands. Like I was 30 years ago.
- The Bucks player development specialist, Bill Peterson, was one of my assistant coaches every summer when I was in high school.
- 3 ball for Joe!
- Joe Alexander is getting to the ft line and playing productively. Again. That is a tremendous sign.
- Taurean Green is an NBA player, in my mind. But I'm not sure he thinks so. He's lost some swagger.
- DeMarcus Nelson is such a special athlete as a pg. I think he can learn the skill part of it.
- Joe Alexander is playing the 4. I like that a lot.
- And he looks like he's doing that. Here anyway.
- Jennings is a very willing passer. If he just keeps his mouth shut and his eyes clear, Skiles will help him become a hell of a player.
- At this point, Jennings knows where he wants to pass the ball better than the best way to get it there. That will improve greatly.
- Bulls Bucks coming in 3.
- DeJuan Summers has 25. Scouts are buzzing about what a nice pickup he is for Detroit.
- I think Jordan Hill is going to be a beast for this team. I'm not sure I'd like in, let's say, Portland. But I see him flying around MSG.
- The tie breaker would be a game of horse.
- That would be a great reality tv idea. Each week, pit them in interesting challenges. The mile run. Hurdles. Arm wrestling. Punt, pass, kick
- Sene here with the Knicks.
- Who would win, Sene vs. Swift?
- Here for end of knicks pistons.
