According to numerous reports, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski will lead Team USA from the 2006 World Championships through the 2008 Olympics.

Maybe the best reason this is a good choice is Coach K knows how to recruit better than anyone. Last time around, the list of players who turned down Team USA included Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Jason Kidd, Mike Bibby and Jermaine O'Neal. The biggest problem the last Olympic team had was it couldn't hit an outside shot to save its, er.... gold, it was all a team of slashers. Think that Kobe, KG, Allen or Bibby wouldn't have made a big difference? Let alone Redd or Barry or some other pure shooter? Coach K is respected enough to get some of those guys.

There's a long way to go and the margin for error for Team USA is much smaller than it was when the first Dream Team was announced (the rest of the world is pretty good, in case you haven't noticed) but USA Basketball seems to be moving in the right direction.
