Erick Dampier still deciding on next team
By Marc Stein
Two new teams have emerged as potential destinations for free-agent center Erick Dampier.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that Dampier has a visit scheduled Wednesday night in Dallas with representatives from the Chicago Bulls, who play the Mavericks in an exhibition game Thursday night at American Airlines Center.
Dampier is also expected to visit later this week with the Phoenix Suns, sources said.
Dampier remains unsigned after the Miami Heat unexpectedly decided not to add the 35-year-old to their roster following Dampier's early September release by Charlotte.
Since the Miami option evaporated, Dampier has taken a deliberate approach to finding his next team.
Dampier visited the Toronto Raptors last week, entertained interested from the Milwaukee Bucks and has also been pursued by the Houston Rockets.
In a recent interview with AOL FanHouse's Sam Amick, Dampier said he has also talked with the Portland Trail Blazers, adding: "I'm not in a rush. ... There's different scenarios, different teams every day. There's no timeline."
After being acquired from Dallas in July in the Tyson Chandler trade, Dampier was waived by the Bobcats so Charlotte could capitalize on the fact that Dampier's original $13 million salary for this season was non-guaranteed, thus significantly reducing its luxury-tax bill.
The Bulls still have some leftover salary-cap space to offer Dampier, while Houston, Phoenix and Portland all possess the bi-annual cap exception to start a new contract at $2 million for this season.
