Stephen A. Smith Makes Allen Iverson Cry
Looks like Smith's new ESPN talk show got off to a rip-roaring start. Smith surprised Iverson with some footage of Larry Brown talking about the Iverson, and Iverson got a little emotional.
Here's how Joe Juliano quotes Iverson talking about the episode in the Philadelphia Inquirer:
"I always said that I wouldn't get choked up like that on TV. But I just couldn't help it. The things that [Brown] said about me, that's how I'm trying to live my life. That's how I'm trying to mold myself as a man, just try to do anything I can do to be a better person, then a better basketball player. So hearing those things from Coach, it just [affected] me..."
Juliano also includes this bit of advice from Allen Iverson to the Knicks, to keep in mind when Larry Brown's harping gets to be too much:
Iverson also said that if he had any advice to give to Knicks players, it would be to "understand that it's not criticism. It's teaching," something that he said took him "too long" to figure out.
I wonder how Iverson's new coach, Maurice Cheeks, likes to hear Iverson calling Brown "the best coach in the world."
