Marc Stein and Bill Simmons are among those mentioning the Spurs as title favorites this year. Tim Varner of 48 Minutes of Hell watches the Spurs closely, and has his worries. One, for instance: "It's frequently said that the Spurs' system takes a full season to learn, with new acquisitions playing better as sophomores than freshmen. That can't be the case this season. Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are too old for Richard Jefferson, Antonio McDyess and DeJuan Blair to spend the year in training wheels."
"Playing the Lakers," writes Kurt of Forum Blue and Gold, "was like Christmas Day for quick point guards." An examination of how the Lakers might address their long-term needs at point guard, with the interesting thought that before picking who will eventually replace Derek Fisher, the Buss family may first want to decide who will replace Phil Jackson.
