Two days after laying out his quarterback plan, Patriots coach Bill Belichick scoffed at a question Friday morning about whether Jimmy Garoppolo could remain the starter upon Tom Brady's return from a four-game suspension. "Jesus Christ," Belichick said softly, clearly annoyed at the question. The topic was initially broached by a reporter asking Belichick if he had ever been part of a situation where in July he named a starter for the fifth week of the season.

Patriots announce practice will be outside, in rain, unless thunderstorms/severe weather force practice inside. Good day to work on ball security.

Temperatures in the mid-70s with rain in the forecast for Friday's second Patriots training camp practice. Team generally likes to practice in elements but in the event plans change and they go inside, the practice would be closed to the public. Despite knuckleballer Steven Wright's struggles to grip ball in sticky, humid or wet conditions, Red Sox manager John Farrell said he can't possibly consider scratching him from future starts in that type of weather. Nature of a five-man rotation doesn't allow for that type of manipulation with starting pitchers.

Led by president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski and GM Mike Hazen, the majority of Red Sox's baseball ops staff is with the team in Anaheim and holding meetings away to prepare for Monday's trade deadline. Team president Sam Kennedy and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon are at Angel Stadium, as well.

Patriots strong enough at running back?

New England didn't pick up a running back in the draft, and while its backs were solid at pass-catching in 2015, a dominant (and healthy) leader at the position has yet to stand out ahead of the upcoming season. Under-the-radar storylines

Can another team win the AFC East?

In Bill Belichick's 16 years in charge, the Patriots have failed to win the AFC East just three times, including 2008, when Tom Brady tore his ACL in Week 1. Perhaps Brady's suspension this year will crack the door further open.
