Price hasn't been right in postseason

You can spin the monster deal for David Price a lot of ways, but the bottom line is the Red Sox just gave $217 million to a pitcher who has never won a postseason game.

The Patriots were busy today, claiming rookie RB Trey Williams on waivers from the Cowboys, placing DE Trey Flowers on season-ending injured reserve, signing WR/return specialist Damaris Johnson to the active roster, signing WR Austin Hill to the practice squad, and working out veteran DB Zack Bowman.

In an unusual twist, the Patriots and Rob Gronkowski released the following statement Tuesday regarding Gronkowski's right knee: "During Sunday nights game, Rob Gronkowski sustained a bone bruise/sprain of his right knee. His status will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis and listed accordingly on the practice participation and injury reports. There is no timetable for his readiness to return, which will be determined in the days or hours prior to the appropriate game. Any timetable reported prior to that final determination would be speculative.

As Shelby Miller trade rumors heat up, one person familiar with the Braves' thinking believes the Cubs and Red Sox are both potential fits. The Braves are big fans of Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler, and they've shown a willingness to discuss both Miller and Julio Teheran in trades.

With their open roster spot, the Patriots intend to sign WR/return specialist Damaris Johnson, who worked out for the team Monday and has remained in town. Johnson is a slot-type receiver at 5-foot-8, 175 pounds and has played for the Eagles (2012-2013) and Texans (2014). Also expect some WR-type movement on Patriots practice squad.
