BOSTON Teams

Celtics won't go quietly. Despite trailing by as much as 28, Boston rallied within 12 with 3:16 to play. As was often the case in this series, the team might have simply dug itself too big of a hole to claw itself out.

Atlanta has been terrific and deserves to advance but I'm disappointed we didn't get to see the competitive series I think this would have been with a healthy Avery Bradley.

Just when Celtics look like they're making a dent into Hawks' lead, slicing a 22-point deficit to 14, Atlanta scores last seven points of third. Boston surrendered an alley-oop layup, Marcus Smart had a very bad turnover and Jared Sullinger was called for a bad offensive foul setting a screen in the backcourt on Dennis Schroder to help Atlanta take 80-59 lead into fourth.

Hawks 78, Celtics 59 (end 3rd): Twelve minutes to go in Boston's season. Celtics could never sustain a third-quarter charge. Boston shooting only 32.4 percent; Hawks at 52.5 percent.

Celtics trim 20-point deficit to 16. Mike Budenholzer calls timeout to calm crowd down and settle Hawks. Atlanta better not fall in love taking three-pointers while trying to hold onto lead. Hawks, who have had trouble holding onto leads, have been good attacking this quarter.

Isaiah Thomas got hit by a Hawks' hand to head on drive with no call. Thomas immediately yelled at ref and drew a technical. Hawks up 59-41 with 7:17 left. Danger zone time for Boston.

According to NBAwowy.com the current Boston front court of Jonas Jerebko, Kelly Olynyk and Amir Johnson played 19 minutes together this season and was outscored by 16.0 points per 100 possessions in that span. I'm mystified.

Celtics down 17. Speaking of 17, the pingpong balls dance at the NBA Draft lottery on May 17.

Eduardo Rodriguez's line for Triple-A Pawtucket tonight in Syracuse: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 75 pitches/45 strikes. Red Sox were hoping for five innings. Next start: Tuesday. Sox will assess his status after that.

Hawks 41, Celtics 33 (halftime): Boston has to feel lucky to be within eight. The Celtics shot a mere 27.7 percent (13 of 47) and 17.6 percent beyond the 3-point arc (3 of 17). Isaiah Thomas posted a team-high 9 points on just 3-of-11 shooting (he added five assists). Hawks haven't shot the ball great, but 42.5 percent (17 of 40) looks pretty solid compared to Boston's struggles.

This time it's the Celtics who are the home team shooting ice cold. Boston missed 28-of-its-first-37 shots and has made only 3-of-14 treys with six minutes left in second quarter.

Hawks 20, Celtic 17 (end 1st): Jonas Jerebko carrying Boston early on both ends of the floor. He's got eight points and had a loud late-first quarter swat of Dennis Schroder. Celtics shooting a mere 29 percent (7 of 24). Kent Bazemore and Tim Hardaway Jr. with five points apiece.

Boston fans were so appreciative of seeing Bill Russell in attendance on the JumboTron that the Celtics showed Russell twice during same timeout. And Russell cracked a smile and waved after the second wave of cheers.

Minutes after the NFL Draft began, the Patriots posted a picture of the back of Tom Brady's jersey on Instagram. The team's Twitter avatar is also the same picture of Brady's jersey. A coincidence or a subtle form of public protest on a night they don't have a first-round pick because of Deflategate penalties? The latter seems like a safe guess.

During lineup introductions, Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas stands alone in corner and team points at him as he is called. Says it's his quiet time to reflect before game.

The crowd here at TD Garden was hyped way before tipoff with pregame video showing Celtics history. Fans sang latter part of national anthem in unison aloud.

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens on the loud atmosphere inside TD Garden for this year's playoff games: "I've said this many times, I've been so impressed ever since I've been here with the Celtics fans. You can clearly feel the energy levels increasing as the months go by and as the days go by with this group."
