Boston Bruins' Patrice Bergeron on his new teammate, David Backes: "David is a great player that plays with passion every night. He brings lots and lots of intangibles that makes a difference for a team. I'm looking forward to meet him and be his teammate."

With Dwight Howard signing with the Atlanta Hawks, the Celtics meeting tonight with Al Horford just got more intriguing — especially coming just 24 hours before Boston is set to huddle with Kevin Durant in the Hamptons. The thought all along has been that Boston would need more star power to convince Durant to truly consider Boston. David Backes on signing with the Boston Bruins: "It's a blue-collar, don't take crap from anybody type of team. That's how I've built my game in 10 years in the league. . . Seemed like an awesome fit hockey-wise . . . A match made in heaven."

The Boston Bruins agreed to a five-year deal worth $30 million with veteran forward David Backes, according to a league source. The 32-year-old centerman will fit nicely in the Bruins' lineup. Originally selected by St. Louis (62nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Backes played his entire career with the Blues and registered 206 goals and 254 assists for 460 points in 727 regular-season games.
