Bogaerts is making a case for MVP

Xander Bogaerts ended one of the best games of the season with a walk-off single on Thursday. We have to take him seriously as an MVP candidate as he continues to rake, now hitting .351/.401/.510 with 50 RBIs while playing solid defense at shortstop, David Schoenfield writes. Five things we learned Thursday

Bogaerts-Betts combo keeps working

Xander Bogaerts plated Mookie Betts with a 10th-inning single that gave the Red Sox an 8-7 walk-off win on Thursday. It was the 23rd time this season that Bogaerts drove in a run that was scored by Betts, the highest RBI total for any major league player on runs scored by a particular teammate, per the Elias Sports Bureau.

Red Sox have inquired about both Julio Teheran and Arodys Vizcaino from the Atlanta Braves. However, there is no traction to a trade at this time. However, these two teams really do match up well for a potential blockbuster type deal at the trade deadline.

Are international NBA picks too risky?

Only 16 of the 30 players drafted in the first round were born in the U.S. (fewest since 1973). Eight of them did not play college basketball (T-most, 2003). The 2003 draft had eight such players, who have combined to play in zero All-Star Games.

Ford: Celtics could have done more

Jaylen Brown is an elite athlete and could emerge as one of the best players in the draft, writes Chad Ford. Celtics GM Danny Ainge, however, was unable to package some of his eight picks to make the team a contender next season. Winners and losers (Insider)

The only disappointment from Celtics fans should be that, by not making a big-splash trade on draft night, Boston wasn't able to further distinguish itself for when free agency arrives next week. Lots of teams have money and the Celtics are going to have to really sell their situation, though there's no shortage of positives to point to. As Danny Ainge said after Thursday's draft: "I'm confident we are moving in the right direction. We still have free agency and a lot of money to spend in the free-agent market to still build our team."

The Boston Celtics will introduce their rookies this afternoon at a press conference at their practice facility. Five of the team's six picks (everyone but Demetrius Jackson) will be present.
