Craig Kimbrel will, in fact, meet the Red Sox in Seattle on Monday, at which point he will have his knee examined. Sounds like he will be reinstated from the disabled list early in the week.

Injury updates: While OF Chris Young (hamstring) and INF Josh Rutledge (knee) are traveling with the Red Sox and increasing baseball activities in preparation for minor-league rehab assignments within the next week to 10 days, manager John Farrell "can't say [LF/C Blake Swihart] is out of the woods yet with the ankle injury." Farrell characterized Swihart's progress as "two steps forward, one step back."

Craig Kimbrel faced three hitters, recorded one out and threw 17 pitches today in a minor-league rehab appearance for Triple-A Pawtucket. Red Sox manager John Farrell expects to speak with Kimbrel later this evening. It's still possible Kimbrel could rejoin the Sox next week in Seattle. He had surgery July 11 to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee.

The Patriots announced that 21,781 fans attended their Saturday morning training camp practice, as it had an "event" type of feel to it with ramps to the stadium opened up to accommodate the overflowing crowd. Said veteran DE Chris Long, who is in his first year with the Patriots after eight with the Rams: "It's awesome. As if just being in pads for the first day isn't exciting enough, you come out and these fans give you a real boost. It just speaks to the passion that these folks have. We're warming up in the hot tub and we can see the fans coming in on ESPN or NFL Network; they beat us out on the field. It's pretty cool what they have going here."

Rookie QB Jacoby Brissett carries the shoulder pads of Jimmy Garoppolo, as well as his own, after Saturday's practice. This is commonplace in New England, as rookies have extra freight on the way back to the locker room.

Patriots G Jonathan Cooper, who had struggles with injuries with the Cardinals (2013-2015), has left practice this morning after appearing to injure his right foot/ankle. He was lining up with first-unit at right guard. He was helped off field by two athletic trainers, walking slowly, before being placed on a cart.

Leave it to Rick Porcello to snap the Red Sox's four-game losing streak with his first complete game since 8/20/14. The 6-2 victory over the Angels marks sixth consecutive win for Porcello, who joins Chris Sale and Chris Tillman as AL's 14-game winners.

As expected, Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel will make a minor-league rehab assignment Saturday for Triple-A Pawtucket. Kimbrel, who had minor surgery July 11 to clean up a torn meniscus in his left knee, is expected to start the game and pitch one inning. He will be reevaluated Sunday, and if all goes well, he could rejoin the Red Sox next week in Seattle.

Peavy got 2013 champs to postseason

The '13 trade deadline was very kind to the Red Sox, who went on to win the World Series after aquiring Jake Peavy from the White Sox. Even though Peavy struggled in the ALCS, he helped Boston stretch its AL East lead from 0.5 games to 4.5 games in August. July trades that paid off in October
