Patriots had free-agent safety Matt Daniels, who played for the Rams (2012-2013) and Jaguars (2014), in for a workout today. The 6-foot-0, 211-pound Daniels entered the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted free-agent out of Duke. This is standard operating procedure as the team works out free agents regularly to keep emergency lists fresh.

Patriots had free-agent CB Bill Bentley, formerly of the Lions, in for a workout today. The 5-foot-10, 188-pound Bentley played in 18 games (8 starts) for the Lions from 2012-2014. Entered NFL as a third-round draft pick out of Miami. This is standard operating procedure as the team works out free agents regularly to keep emergency lists fresh.

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart (illness) is not expected to accompany the team to New York on Tuesday night and will sit out Wednesday’s exhibition game versus the Brooklyn Nets. “He’s got what everybody else had plus fever and everything else,” said Stevens, whose roster has battled illness throughout training camp. “We’ve gone through that a little bit with our roster and hopefully we’re nearing the end of it.”
