One streak ends, another continues

Red Sox fans were surely disappointed to see Jackie Bradley Jr.'s 29-game hitting streak end Thursday, but now they can turn their attention to Xander Bogaerts, who has quietly put together a 19-game streak of his own.

Clay Buchholz may be running out of time

Buchholz once again struggled, giving up six runs and three home runs in an 8-2 loss to the Rockies. He has allowed fewer than four runs just twice in 10 starts. The Red Sox have to be thinking about an alternative in their rotation. Five things we learned Thursday

I've seen some people in Boston saying John Farrell messed up Jackie Bradley Jr.'s hitting streak by moving him to leadoff for a night. That's ludicrous. Bradley crushed two fly balls that were caught at the fence. He also came very close to getting a fifth at-bat in the 9th precisely because he was batting leadoff. Jon Gray and some bad luck ended Bradley's streak; not John Farrell.

Jackie Bradley Jr. hitting streak ends but don't run away in fantasy. Two at-bats could have been homers. Hit ball hard. His emergence is real.

Jackie Bradley Jr.'s hitting streak is done and in the books at 29 games. He went 0-for-4 against Colorado's Jon Gray and fell one short of tying Nomar Garciaparra and Tris Speaker for second place on the Red Sox career list at 30. Bradley was standing in the on-deck circle when Mookie Betts grounded out to end the game.

The longest hitting streak of the MLB season is in serious jeopardy. Jackie Bradley Jr. is 0-for-4 after an 8th inning groundout against Colorado's Jon Gray, and the Red Sox will need several men to reach base if he's going to get another shot in the 9th.

Jackie Bradley Jr. crushes a Jon Gray pitch to dead center field, but Charlie Blackmon catches it at the fence about 400 feet from home plate. It takes luck to keep a hitting streak alive, and Bradley's hasn't been good tonight. Two long flyouts in his first three at-bats.

Jackie Bradley Jr. grounds out on a soft comebacker to Jon Gray in his second at bat. Bradley has seen a total of four pitches in his first two plate appearances tonight. He got a curveball and a changeup in his second AB.
