BOSTON -- Red Sox reliever Manny Delcarmen was not available to pitch Saturday night because he was recovering from a car accident earlier in the day.
Delcarmen's Hummer was one of three cars involved in the accident on nearby Route 93. The accident took place in the afternoon as Delcarmen was on his way to Fenway Park. The right-hander spent the night in the trainer's room receiving treatment for a sore back and neck. He is listed day-to-day.
Delcarmen has had a difficult last few weeks. He has allowed nine runs in his last six outings and 12 in his past 10. He has allowed runs in 21 of his 64 relief appearances and could be on the bubble in terms of making the postseason roster. His 4.53 ERA is more than a run higher than his ERA last season.
