D-lineman Armond Armstead retires

New England Patriots defensive lineman Armond Armstead, a highly touted prospect who signed with the team in 2013 after an all-star season in the Canadian Football League, has announced his retirement.

Armstead, 23, was referred to as a top-3 player in the Patriots' defensive tackle rotation last year by coach Bill Belichick, but an infection before the start of 2013 training camp ultimately landed him on season-ending injured reserve. He never played a game with the team.
